When our thoughts dictate our mood, one negative notion can derail our entire day. Pastor Shawn shares a personal struggle when he let a destructive thought consume him, realizing later that it was all based on lies.
"They are always thinking about how much it costs." (Proverbs 23:7 NLT) Your thoughts can hold you captive. The enemy wants you to believe lies about your life, hindering you from living up to God's plans.
KILL THE LIES
"A lie believed as truth will affect your life as if it were true." - Craig Groeschel
Believing lies can shape your reality. Follow these 4 steps to break free:
1. PRAY FOR GOD’S POWER
- Identify broken thoughts, then demolish them with God's power.
- Seek a friend's help to point out blind spots.
"We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God." (2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT)
2. PRAY WITH GOD’S PEOPLE
- Confess sins, allowing God's purification.
- Pray for each other transparently.
"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." (James 5:16)
3. GET IN GOD’S WORD
- Fact-check feelings against God's truth.
- Use 2 Corinthians 10:5 "We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ." (NLT), as a guide to identify and remove negative thoughts.
"For the word of God is alive and powerful." (Hebrews 4:12 NLT)
Challenge lies with biblical truths: (AM/FM Chart)
- Lie: God doesn’t care about me.
- John 3:16 - God sent His son for our sins.
- Lie: God wouldn’t want me.
- "You didn’t choose me. I chose you." (John 15:16 NLT)
- Lie: I’m not enough.
- "Our qualification comes from God." (2 Corinthians 3:5 NLT)
4. GET IN GOD’S HOUSE
- Encourage one another in the local church.
- Dive into community, serve, and build God's Kingdom together.
"And let us not neglect our meeting together." (Hebrews 10:25 NLT)
Remember, it's okay to have thoughts, but don't let them linger. With God's power, truth, and community, break free from the lies that hold you back.
God is not done with you. You're not alone. Greater is He within you! As you face your thoughts, remember, let your praise break chains.
